LANDSCAPES
My landscapes are painted in oil, on canvas or wood panel, and involve a mix of plein air and studio work. For larger paintings, I would normally make a detailed drawing on site, transfer it to a canvas, and work up the painting both in the studio and back at the original location. I am doing two things at once: recording the shapes and colors I see in the particular landscape, but also expressing my own reactions to the mood of the place, along with the season and time of day. By the time a landscape is complete, it has become for me a setting for a story or an encounter. With smaller landscapes, I usually begin painting plein air and then shift to visual editing in the studio.
